Destination weddings are magical events...

They're a marriage of emotion and place, an intersection of love, romance, and adventure. They have their own unique look and feel and their own unique considerations. I will capture your destination wedding or event in such a way that the place, the destination, is one of the main characters in the photographic story, imbuing the photographs with the essence of the destination. It isn't just a wedding; it is a wedding inexorably bound to the destination in which it takes place, which I believe should significantly influence the photographic style.

What are your travel fees?

Generally, there are minimal or no travel fees within the country of France and the U.S. state of California. As an expert traveler, I have developed ways of traveling very inexpensively around the world. I am then able to pass these savings onto you. I'll be able to better discuss travel fees and logistics once I know where your event is.

Planning a destination wedding can be a daunting task...

Dealing with logistics, finding local services and vendors, dealing with different currencies and payment systems, differences in contracts and contract law in foreign countries with foreign businesses, and language barriers are just a few of the headaches and stressors that arise when planning a destination wedding.

Should you hire a local or destination wedding photographer?

Destination wedding photographers bring a fresh perspective and enthusiasm to each event, infusing their work with a sense of adventure and novelty. Ultimately, investing in a destination wedding photographer not only guarantees stunning visual memories but also enhances the overall wedding experience, capturing moments that transcend time and place.

Moreover, destination wedding photographers are adept at managing the logistical challenges inherent in remote locations, ensuring a seamless photography experience without compromising quality or professionalism.

I will work tirelessly to make sure your destination wedding photography is exceptional and extraordinary and that the process is as smooth and painless as possible. I will arrive in the days prior to your wedding to scout the location and venues and plan my shots. I will communicate clearly and responsively with you at every step of the way, from the initial booking to delivering your photographs.

FAQ

How do I book you for my destination wedding?

Contact me using the form on the contact page or email me at julian@travelingshutter.com

How many images will I receive?

You will receive at least 50 edited photographs per hour of photography coverage. For an 8 hour wedding, you can expect between 400-600 edited, high resolution photographs, delivered digitally.

Where are you based?

I am based in Joshua Tree, California, but spend a significant amount of time traveling.

What is your turnaround time?

Because of the dynamic nature of destination wedding photography, the typical timeline can vary depending on the situation. I am able to tailor my services and timelines for deliverables to meet your individual needs. As a guideline, the general timelines are as follows:

For weddings and destination events, photographs are usually delivered within four weeks, with a handful of selected photographs delivered within 24-48 hours for social media purposes.

How does this process work, from booking to photograph delivery?

After sending me an email or message on my contact page, we will schedule a phone call or video conference call to discuss your plans and needs. Once we figure out what services and packages are right for you, we will discuss logistical considerations and details. Once we've reached a consensus, you will be sent a digital contract to sign where you'll be asked to put down a deposit to secure the dates and services. Payment arrangements can be made, but generally final payment is due two weeks prior to the event.

I will then go to your destination a couple days before your wedding, event, or vacation, to scout the areas, venue(s), and plan shots; as we always said in the military, prior planning prevents poor performance. Those days do not count as billable photography days.

After the event, you will be given the edited, high-resolution photographs in a downloadable gallery.

My venue requires photographers have insurance? Is your business insured?

Yes, my business is registered and fully insured, and I can furnish that certificate of insurance to your venue.

What kind of gear do you use?

It is the photographer that is responsible for creating the image, not the equipment they use. With that said, sometimes professional results require professional gear, whether it's due to reliability, redundancy, or technical performance. I use Canon EOS R6 Mark II and R8 bodies and Canon EL-5 Speedlites. For lenses, I use the Canon RF 24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z, the Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS USM, the Canon RF 16mm f/2.8 STM, the Sigma 105mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art Lens, the Sigma 28mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art Lens, and the Sigma 40mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art Lens. I also use an iPhone 15 Pro Max for social media content creation upon request.
